Definition
Universal phonetic transcription system developed by the *International Phonetic Association*. It allows the actual pronunciation of any word in any language to be represented unambiguously. In naming it is the canonical tool for recording and communicating the correct pronunciation of a name, avoiding ambiguities when operating in multiple markets.
