Definition
Numerical representations of text (or images) as vectors in a high-dimensional space, where distance between vectors approximates similarity of meaning. They let a system find related content without literal word overlap, which makes them the foundation of semantic search and retrieval for AI. Their relations are inferred and statistical — useful, but implicit; an explicit link in a knowledge graph states the same relation deliberately and verifiably.
